Saving Money: Movie Date Night, Total Win

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

This weekend I decided to surprise my boyfriend with a wonderful at home date
night experience with a few of his favorite snacks. Unfortunately, I am on a tight
budget but wanted to provide him with a bit of magic for the weekend to show him
how much I care about him.

While sitting at my desk on Friday, I began coming up with this wonderful idea for a date night…movie night. I immediately began speaking with a few friends in the office who provided a bit of advice on my movie night extravaganza.

By lunch, I had mentally created my perfect date night for the two of us. I spent my lunch dabbling a bit in my food and searching online for cool printables to decorate the house. I tapped my pen like crazy on my desk, waiting for the time to pass so I could visit the dollar store and purchase a few items for my movie-themed party. Work ended, I clocked out of my phone and it began to downpour. I was determined. I knew I only had a couple of hours before he’d arrive and I wanted everything to be perfect. I ran into the downpour, rushing to the local Dollar Tree. I’d already created my list for the day, with items I knew I needed to make the night perfect – popcorn tubs, balloons, chips, a food tray, napkins, candy, candy and more…candy! When I checked out and saw all that I’d had, I was elated. I’d already had more than enough popcorn at home and the movie chosen, A Bronx Tale from 1993 – had been a movie Manny wanted us to watch for the longest. I made sure this would be the movie selection of the evening. I called my dear friend who decided to come over and help decorate. She’d already been made fully aware of my special surprise and was excited to be apart of it. Below you can hopefully enjoy the setup of decorations and snacks – many of which are our favorites.

I encourage you all to create your own special date, friend, enjoyment night! A few steps to keep in mind when creating your own special themed night for your loved ones:

  1. Theming is everything: Choose a fun theme and stick with it. You might find it hard to find enough decor, once you begin shopping but stick to the plan! Just a few colorful napkins coupled by dollar store balloons can take your fun night to the next level.
  2. Create a budget: Sometimes, less is a whole lot more. Remember that by having a budget you can create something wonderful without going over the top with decor and snacks. This was one major challenge I realized after purchasing immense amounts of snacks. At the end of the evening, we had two extra days worth of snacks leftover and it was quite the challenge.
  3. Positive Mind, Positive Party: There is nothing like positivity to make certain you have a great time. Imagine that there is no way you can fail at this experience. Know that you are 100% in control of the outcome. Embrace your party with confidence, knowing that you and your guest(s) are able to enjoy something creative and wonderful if you acknowledge the spirit of which it was motivated.
